Product Description

Upright fire sprinklers are designed to be installed on top of the piping branch, pointing toward the ceiling. They are easily identified by their "upright" stance and a solid, curved deflector that directs the water spray downward after it hits the top plate.

Why Use Upright Sprinklers?

While pendent sprinklers (the ones hanging down) are more common in finished offices, upright models are the workhorse of industrial and mechanical environments.

  • Obstruction Avoidance: Because they sit above the pipe, they are less likely to be hit by moving machinery, forklifts, or people.

  • Debris Protection: In dusty environments or older systems, sediment and scale settle at the bottom of the pipes. Upright sprinklers draw from the top of the pipe, preventing the head from getting clogged.

  • Exposed Ceilings: They are the standard choice for warehouses, mechanical rooms, and parking structures where piping is visible and aesthetics are secondary to durability.

Anatomy of an Upright Head

  1. The Frame: Usually made of forged brass or chrome-plated bronze to withstand high pressure and corrosion.

  2. The Deflector: A notched, circular plate at the very top. It is designed to catch the upward stream of water and redistribute it into a uniform, hemispherical spray pattern.

  3. The Heat Element: Typically a 3mm (Quick Response) or 5mm (Standard Response) glass bulb filled with colored liquid that shatters at a specific temperature.

  4. The Orifice: The opening through which water flows, usually sized according to a 5.6 K-factor for standard commercial use.
