Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers are specialized fire suppression heads designed to be mounted on walls rather than ceilings. They are oriented horizontally, projecting a directional spray pattern that extends forward and downward to cover a rectangular room.

When to Use Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers

These are the primary choice when ceiling piping is either impossible, impractical, or aesthetically undesirable.

• Retrofits: Ideal for older buildings where installing piping through heavy floor slabs or decorative ceilings is too difficult.

• Hotel Guest Rooms: Often mounted on the wall above the entry door or near a closet to keep the ceiling clear.

• Aesthetic Preservation: Used in museums or historic buildings to avoid damaging ornate or heritage ceilings.

• Small Spaces: Perfect for hallways, corridors, and long, narrow rooms where a single head can cover the entire length.

Design and Spray Pattern

Unlike pendent and upright heads that create a circular "umbrella," a horizontal sidewall head has a unique specialized deflector.

1. Directional Flow: The deflector is shaped like a hood or a crescent. It catches the water and throws it out into the room in a "half-moon" or rectangular footprint.

2. Back-Wall Protection: A small portion of the water is directed backward to cool the wall it is mounted on, preventing the fire from climbing the wall behind the head.

3. K-Factor: Typically available in standard 5.6 K-factor, though "Extended Coverage" (EC) models exist for larger rooms.
