Manufacturing: Forged vs. Bar Stock

• Forged Brass Reducers: Created by pressing hot brass into a mold. These are incredibly dense and are the standard for high-pressure systems (like hydraulic lines or refrigerant sets) because they lack the microscopic pores found in cast metal.

• Machined (Bar Stock): Cut directly from a hexagonal or round brass rod. These offer precise threading and are common for low-pressure water and air applications.

3. Technical Specifications

• Thread Types: Most common in NPT (National Pipe Thread) for the US or BSPT/BSPP for international markets.

• Pressure Ratings: * Standard Duty: Typically rated up to 1,200 PSI.

  • Heavy Duty Forged: Can exceed 3,000 PSI depending on the wall thickness.

• Temperature Range: Naturally handles -53C to 121C (-65F to 250F), making them ideal for both hot water and cryogenic gas applications.

4. Key Benefits of Brass

• Corrosion Resistance: Unlike steel reducers, brass will not rust when exposed to water, making it the preferred choice for potable water systems.

• Anti-Galling: Brass has "self-lubricating" properties, meaning it is less likely to seize up or "weld" itself to other fittings over time, allowing for easier maintenance.

• Machinability: The precision of the threads on a brass reducer ensures a tighter mechanical fit compared to rougher cast iron alternatives.
